About Carisa
A college professor first introduced me to the idea of natural childbirth. I had wondered for years how I would ever endure pregnancy and childbirth. After hearing what this professor had to say, I was hooked. The idea of remaining an active participant in labor, not having to be hooked to monitors & IV’s, and having freedom to move about and cope in the way that felt best greatly appealed to me. I have since had three amazing births of my own and become passionate about teaching others; not only because of my own experience but because of the many stories I hear time and again of births that were far from wonderful. I know from experience as well as study that birth does not have to be scary, overly painful, or out of control. In fact, it can be one of the most incredible life experiences. I would not even begin to describe my own births as painful. They were intense, but good; wonderful really. These are the words so often used to describe natural birth with completely opposite accounts from many who have had inductions, medications, and cesareans (these really can interfere with the process, cause pain, and result in dissatisfaction). I was once told by a good doctor friend of mine that I was made to give birth, and I agreed. But this is true for over 90% of women!
I began my official training as a birth educator with the Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth and am a Certified Bradley instructor. I am very passionate about birth and enjoy helping others. I consider natural birth to be a remarkable and rewarding experience that truly has the best outcomes for mother, baby, and the family as a whole. Please join me in learning your own capabilities for labor and birth!
